The Joe Keane Creative Centre

The Joe Keane Creative Centre, named in memory of Betty’s husband and Liz’s dad, Joe, who was the initial ‘heart and soul’ behind the Old Deanery holiday cottages before his untimely death, is set in a restored Victorian stables next to the Deanery house itself.The centre has been open for classes and workshops for nearly a year now, and there have been some very interesting and enjoyable classes, courses and workshops held there:

Some of our regular classes and workshops include:

• evening hatha yoga classes with Aideen
• drama/directing workshops for tweens and teens with Tony Murphy
• Creative writing and using the internet for research, collaboration, connection with other writers
• Pilates classes with Jamal
• Photography workshops with Eamon McCarthy (imagesofmayo.com)
• Mindfulness meditation with Rachel Sweetman

The centre is also available to groups who book several cottages for family reunions, group gatherings (drama groups, diving clubs, walking groups etc..) and we’ve had family quiz nights, film nights, storytelling for all, tales of 1798 and the arrival of the French with Stephen Dunford… The space is available if you would like to come and stay at the cottages as a group and bring your own instructor/s. The Joe Keane Creative Centre at the Old Deanery has been put to many good uses since it opened. Over the high season and during school holidays, local artist Sabine runs a very popular DROP-IN ARTS & CRAFTS WORKSHOPS for children twice a week. She also has been running a series of DRAWING & PAINTING CLASSES for adults, during the day and evening time too!

Health guru and juicer, Moira Geary has run very successful JUICING WORKSHOPS as part of a HEALTH & WELLNESS WEEKEND. The weekend also offered yoga classes with our resident yoga teacher, Aideen Ryan, as well as hill walks and bio-dynamic massage. The workshop was really enjoyable, and we hope to run another one soon.

Aideen R, our lovely yoga teacher, takes a weekly YOGA CLASS in the creative centre, as well as offering her classes during the wellness weekends. Her classes are a wonderful mixture of pleasure and tranquility – and everyone leaves with a big, happy, relaxed smile!
